Governance and maintenance

The design system is governed and maintained using a transparent and diplomatic process.

The Hennepin County design system is updated often to better meet user needs.

These updates are to:

  • Fix defects
  • Improve the product
  • Meet new standards

Changes to the design system follow a process for input and decision making:

  1. Staff requests a change through the contact form.
  2. The product owner and maintenance group review and discuss the request.
  3. The User Experience Community of Practice gives input to the request.
  4. The product owner makes the final decision and ensures the team publishes the change.

We enforce standards based on federal law, leading standards organizations, and county policies.
