Hard refresh on an Android device

A hard refresh clears the browser’s cache for a specific page. It forces it to load the most recent version of a page.

Sometimes completely clearing the cache is necessary.

  1. Tap on the "Options" menu on the upper right corner of the screen.
  2. Tap the "Settings" option.
  3. From the Settings screen, tap on "Privacy & security."
  4. Tap the "Clear history."
  5. Tap on "OK" button to clear your browsing history.
Hard refresh on an Apple device

A hard refresh clears the browser’s cache for a specific page. It forces it to load the most recent version of a page.

Sometimes completely clearing the cache is necessary.

Safari

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down and tap "Safari."
  3. Scroll down in the Safari menu and tap "Clear History and Website Data."
  4. Confirm that you want to delete the history.

Chrome

  1. Open the Chrome app.
  2. At the top right, tap More.
  3. Tap History.
  4. At the bottom, tap Clear Browsing Data.
  5. Tap to check "Browsing history." It may be checked by default.
  6. Uncheck any other items you don't want to delete.
  7. Tap Clear Browsing Data.
  8. Confirm by tapping Clear Browsing Data.
  9. At the top right, tap Done.

Chrome

Windows/Linux:

  • Hold down Ctrl and click the Reload button.
  • Or, Hold down Ctrl and press F5.
  • Just open the Chrome Dev Tools by pressing F12. Once the chrome dev tools are open, right click on the refresh button and a menu will drop down. This menu gives you the option of doing a hard refresh, or even clearing the cache and do a hard refresh automatically.

Mac:

  • Hold ⇧ Shift and click the Reload button
  • Or, hold down ⌘ Cmd and ⇧ Shift key and then press R.

Mozilla Firefox and related browsers

Windows/Linux:

  • Hold the Ctrl key and press the F5 key.
  • Or, hold down Ctrl and ⇧ Shift and then press R.

Mac:

  • Hold down the ⇧ Shift and click the Reload button.
  • Or, hold down ⌘ Cmd and ⇧ Shift and then press R.

Internet Explorer

  • 1. Hold the Ctrl key and press the F5 key.
  • Or, hold the Ctrl key and click the Refresh button.
