Affordable Connectivity Program

The Affordable Connectivity Program is a federal discount that helps households with lower incomes pay for internet service.

  • There are multiple home and mobile broadband internet service options available in Hennepin County.
  • A one-time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer (with a co-payment of more than $10 but less than $50). Available devices and out of pocket costs vary by plan.
  • Up to a $30/month discount on your internet service.
  • There are multiple ways to qualify for the program.

The Affordable Connectivity Program is limited to one monthly discount and one device discount per household.

Eligibility

There are multiple ways to qualify.

1. You or someone in your household receives one or more of the benefits below:

  • Medicaid
  • WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children)
  • SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), formerly known as Food Stamps
  • SSI (Supplemental Security Income)
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA)
  • Veterans pension and survivors benefit
  • Free and reduced price school meals program
  • Received a federal pell grant in the current award year 

2. If your income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines:

  • Household of one: $27,180
  • Household of two: $36,620
  • Household of three: $46,060
  • Household of four: $55,500
  • Household of five: $64,940
  • Household of six: $74,380
  • Household of seven: $83,820
  • Household of eight: $93,260

For each additional person, add $9,440.

3. You meet the eligibility criteria for a participating broadband provider’s existing low-income internet program.

4. If you are currently enrolled in the Lifeline program, you automatically qualify for the Affordable Connectivity Program.

Step 2

Select an internet service plan and have the discount applied to your bill. A list of participating providers is available in the Affordable Connectivity Program service plans in Hennepin County section.

Some service plans are fully covered through the Affordable Connectivity Program. Other plans apply the discount and decrease your monthly service fee.

Comcast/Xfinity

  • Available plans:
    • Internet Essentials
    • Internet Essentials Plus
    • Qualifying customers on other plans will receive a discount

Lifeline

If you are already participating in Lifeline for discounted phone services, you do not need to apply directly for the Affordable Connectivity Program.

To receive the Affordable Connectivity Program benefit for discounted internet service:

  • Talk to your Lifeline provider about the services they may have available as part of the Affordable Connectivity Program, including options to apply the discounts to your existing Lifeline service, or
  • Reach out to your internet company directly to enroll in the Affordable Connectivity Program, or
  • Contact another internet company participating in the Affordable Connectivity Program to apply the benefit to a separate internet service. A list of participating providers is available in the Affordable Connectivity Program service plans in Hennepin County section.
