Home buying

Homebuyer assistance programs funded directly by Hennepin County are currently not available.

For Homebuyer assistance (including down payment and closing costs), contact your lender, the Minnesota Homeownership Center, or Minnesota Housing.

Home repairs

Home repairs program 

Hennepin County offers deferred loans* up to $30,000 at low or no interest to qualified recipients for home repairs and maintenance through the Home Repairs program.

  • No monthly payments
  • Loans may be forgiven if you remain in the home
  • Loans must be repaid if homeowner transfers title, sells the home or no longer lives in it

Eligible repairs include: plumbing, electrical, painting, windows, doors, siding, roof replacement, accessibility improvements, flooring and other repairs that address health, safety and maintenance concerns.

Non-eligible repairs include items like: landscaping, additions, hot tubs, pools, and demolition.

Funding availability

Funding availability varies by city, and is on a first-come, first-served basis. If funds are not currently available in your city, you can join a waiting list.

Residents of Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Minneapolis, and Plymouth should contact your city directly for information about housing rehabilitation loans.

Income requirements

This funding is intended for low- and moderate-income households. In order to qualify for assistance, your household income must be below these limits:

Section 8

Hennepin County is not the contact agency for Section 8 vouchers. Other organizations maintain Section 8 waiting lists. You can check the status of those waiting lists on the Housing Link website.
