Families and single adults in need of emergency shelter

Call Hennepin Shelter Hotline – 612-204-8200

Hennepin Shelter Hotline serves Hennepin County residents who are seeking emergency shelter by helping them find a safe, temporary place to stay while they work on next steps toward stable housing.

A person or family should contact Hennepin Shelter Hotline if:

  • They are 18 years or older
  • They are seeking emergency shelter

Hotline hours:

  • Monday - Friday: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Saturday - Sunday and holidays: 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Callers outside of these hours will be directed to United Way's 2-1-1 

If you’re fleeing domestic violence

If you’re fleeing domestic violence, have been sexually assaulted or exploited, and/or trafficked, call or text Day One Services to be connected to the closest available domestic violence shelter. Advocates are available 24/7.

If you’re in immediate danger, please call 911.

Youth programs

The Youth Services Network helps young people (24 years and younger) find a safe, temporary place to stay.

A person should visit the Youth Services Network website if:

  • They are 24 years or younger
  • They don’t have a safe place to sleep tonight

Get a community card

A community card can be scanned by emergency shelters and drop-in centers to make access quicker. The Higher Ground Minneapolis shelter can print a community card onsite for guests. Otherwise, community cards can be printed at:

  • Hope Avenue Twin Cities (1229 Logan Avenue N, Minneapolis)
    • Monday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Mary F. Frey Opportunity Center (740 17th Street E, Minneapolis)
    • Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Salvation Army Harbor Light Center (1010 Currie Avenue, Minneapolis)
    • Monday to Wednesday, 9 –11:45 a.m.
  • Steps of Strategy (1803 Bryant Ave N Minneapolis)
    • Tuesday to Saturday, 12pm – 5pm
  • Adult Shelter Connect at the Simpson Administrative Office, lower lobby (160 Glenwood Avenue, Minneapolis)
    • Mondays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    • Adult Shelter Connect can create community cards for people that have completed an intake in the Homeless management Information System (HMIS). If you need an intake can call the Hennepin Shelter Hotline at 612-204-8200 and select Option 1 to connect to a specialist.
  • Youthlink (41 North 12th Street, Minneapolis)
    • Monday to Friday, 10am – 4pm
    • Youthlink serves young people 16 to 24 years old
