France Avenue and I-494 improvements

Hennepin County is planning safety and accessibility improvements at four of France Avenue’s intersections:

• American Boulevard
• I-494 eastbound exit ramp
• 78th Street/I-494 westbound exit ramp
• Minnesota Drive

Planned improvements

• New pedestrian curb ramps that meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards at intersections
• New Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS) at intersections
• New flashing yellow left-turn arrow signals to improve safety and reduce traffic-flow delays at the Minnesota Drive intersection
• Improved design for Minnesota Drive at the France Avenue intersection
• New multi-use trails between 78th Street / I-494 westbound exit ramp intersection and the 76th Street intersection
• Improved travel lane configurations to improve safety for people driving motorized vehicles on France Avenue

Minnesota Department of Transportation, Hennepin County and the cities of Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Edina and Richfield are developing solutions to improve safety and reliability in three areas: I-494 mainline, I-35W and I-494 interchange and between Nicollet Avenue and 12th Avenue. This will improve access with crossings for people biking, walking and rolling.
