About the corridor

Cedar Avenue will be repaved between Washington Avenue (County Road 122) and 20th Avenue South.  The corridor serves as a main connector for the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood, the University of Minnesota west bank campus, Augsburg University and traffic accessing I-35W and I-94.

Anticipated project timeline

We expect to complete design work by summer 2024 and make the improvements during the 2025 construction season. Projects like this typically begin with intersection work, then pavement work and finish with restriping.

Potential changes to the corridor

This project provides an opportunity to change roadway striping to improve safety and mobility for road users while preserving existing parking infrastructure.

Potential changes include:

  • Reconstructing curb ramps to be more accessible and easier to use, compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • Changing the striping from South 6th Street to 20th Avenue South, including under the I-94 bridge, to add a center left turn lane, one travel lane in each direction and a parking lane or shoulder space
