One-Day DWI Program

The One-Day DWI Program is an alternative sanction for first-time DWI offenders. The program provides a prompt and consistent response to prevent repeat offenses.

Participants attend programming that combines:

  • Alcohol education
  • Cognitive therapy
  • Self-assessment
  • Victim impact panel

One-Day DWI program facilitated virtually

The Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation is temporarily facilitating virtual One-Day DWI program classes, to help ensure the health and safety of our clients and staff. At this time, in-person classes are not being offered; we anticipate in-person classes resuming January 1, 2021. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Schedule and locations

The program is held most Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Access the 2020 One-day DWI Program calendar (PDF).

Locations rotate:

  • Register for the One-Day DWI program. Please have your Hennepin County case number available when registering for the class.

  • Emails will be responded to between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Fees and payment

The One-Day DWI program fee is $385 ($260 for public defender clients).

  • Payment must be made at least one day in advance of the program.
  • Bring your payment receipt to the class.
  • Payment options include:
    • Cash (must be exact amount, no change will be given)
    • Credit/debit card - to make a payment, call the Fee Line at 612-348-5179
    • Check (made out to Hennepin County Treasurer)
    • Money order (made out to Hennepin County Treasurer)
  • Please include your case number and social security number with payment.

Paying in person

Payments are accepted in person until one day prior to your scheduled program. Locations include:

Paying by mail requires that the payment be submitted two weeks in advance of the class. Payments can be mailed to:

Frequently asked questions

How do I locate my case number so I can register?

Your case number/court file number is located at the top of your court documents.

How do I reschedule or cancel a registration?

Go to the One-Day DWI registration website and enter your case number and date of birth.

If you need to reschedule, cancel your current registration, then register for a session that works better for your schedule.

What if I forget my username or password after registering?

If you forget your password, please click on the "Forgot Password" icon and enter the email you registered. The website will provide instructions for you to reset your password.

If you continue to experience issues with your password, please contact Hennepin County Online Services by calling 612-543-2200, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What do I need to know about paying for my class?

Payments for a given session must be received before a participant can attend a One-Day DWI class.

If a participant cancels or reschedules, their payment will be applied to the session they reschedule for.

Will I be reminded to attend my One-Day DWI class?

A confirmation email and text will be sent to you after you have successfully registered for your DWI class. This will be the only reminder you receive.

What if I fail to complete the One-Day DWI program?

A violation will be issued by the participant's probation officer for anyone who fails to attend the One-Day DWI program and they will be required to return to court.

Are meals served during the class?

Meals and snacks are not provided. Participants are given an hour lunch break in which they may leave the premises for a meal.

Are breaks given to class participants?

Breaks are given throughout the day.

How do I know if a session is cancelled due to bad weather?

Cancellations will be announced on the phone registration line. Call 612-543-0471 and select your class location for a recorded message.

You will also receive an email or text notifying you if your class is cancelled.

How can I receive a copy of my certificate if I have moved to another state?

Call the registration line at 612-543-0471 and leave a message requesting a copy of your certificate. Provide your full name, case number and mailing address.

How do I request an interpreter?

While on the registration main page, select the "Schedule One-Day DWI Program" option. At the bottom of the page select "Yes" for "Will you need an interpreter." You can then select the language needed for interpretation. Prior to your scheduled DWI class, you will be contacted by your interpreter.
