Employment supports for people with mental health conditions

Hennepin County’s Vocational Services Program helps residents with mental health conditions and substance use disorders overcome barriers to work.

Our vocational counselors can work with you to identify your unique needs, interests, and job-related goals. Together, we’ll create a plan and connect you to resources at the county and in the community.

We can help you get hired, keep your job, and advance your career.

Job supports for residents

Employment can have an important role in your recovery. Our counselors are experienced in providing job supports to individuals with mental health conditions or substance use disorders. Job supports will vary based on your needs and are dependent on eligibility.

Our vocational counselors can help you:

  • Explore career options
  • Find a job
  • Build your skills
  • Communicate with your employer
  • Navigate challenges at work

Employment supports through Hennepin County’s Vocational Services program are free and are not time limited for those who qualify.

Additional long-term supports to help you keep your job and advance your career are available for eligible residents.

Pre-employment supports for students

Individual support to prepare for a future career is available for students ages 16 to 24.

Work with a counselor to:

  • Explore career interests
  • Talk with people in careers that interest you and try out jobs
  • Learn about your options for college and training programs
  • Get individualized support to help you be successful in school
  • Connect to other resources, such as options to pay for your education
  • Learn how to ask for what you need to be successful in school and at work
Information for employers

Hennepin County’s Vocational Services Program is seeking employers who would like to partner with us. We can help you find your next hire and provide supports to help them be successful in their new job.

Federal tax credits may be available.
