Timeline

We expect to complete design work by the summer of 2025 and begin improvements during the 2026 construction season. Projects like this usually begin with intersection work, then pavement work, and finish with restriping.

Potential changes

We are looking at restriping Hennepin Avenue to improve the safety and comfort of everyone that uses it without impacting traffic.

Potential changes include:

  • Adding bike lanes with buffer space on both sides of Hennepin Avenue to provide separation between people biking and vehicles.
  • Narrow travel lanes to help control vehicle speed
  • Integration with the new E-Line bus rapid transit station at 2nd Street North. Metro Transit will build this station in 2025.

If you wish to share your thoughts or ask questions about the project, contact jordan.kocack@hennepin.us.
