Humboldt Avenue reconstruction project completed

On October 3, crews completed their work and reopened Humboldt Avenue (County Road 57) just north of Memorial Drive.

Other work in the area

On Monday, October 8, CenterPoint Energy will start a brief utility project at the northwest corner of Victory Memorial Parkway and Humboldt Avenue.

People walking should expect closures on the west sidewalk of Humboldt Avenue, but access will be maintained on the east sidewalk. The work will not impact people driving through the area.

About this project

This railroad crossing is unique in that it has four separate at-grade rail crossings at a skewed angle to the roadway.

Federal and State Aid funds have been allocated for the design and construction of the following elements to improve safety and level of service.

Improvements at rail crossing

  • Resurfacing of two railroad crossings.
  • Installation of a new signal and gate system that is more efficient and should reduce the number of false warnings.
  • Medians added to prevent drivers from going around lowered gate arms.

Improvements on Humboldt Avenue

  • Sidewalks and curb ramps along Humboldt Avenue improved to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
  • Converted the sidewalk along the east side of Humboldt Avenue into a shared path between Grand Rounds and Shingle Creek trails.
