Hennepin County's hazardous waste self-audits are designed to help new or unlicensed generators assess their hazardous waste management systems and become compliant with hazardous waste regulations, without requiring an inspection.

Obtaining a hazardous waste license by filling out a self-audit

Businesses that will be classified as Very Small Quantity Generators or Minimal Generators can obtain a hazardous waste license by filling out a self-audit form. Please call the county at 612-348-3777 and ask for the environmentalist-on-call if you have questions about whether or not you need to fill out a self-audit form.

To obtain a license:

  • Determine your generator size. Only Minimal or Very Small Quantity Generators are eligible to use the self-audit forms to obtain a license.
  • Complete the self-audit form for your specific industry. If a self-audit has not been developed for your industry, fill out the Generic Self-Audit.
  • Fill out any necessary additional forms.
