One-Day DWI program

The One-Day DWI program is an alternative sanction for first-time DWI offenders with a blood alcohol content of .19 or less. The program provides a prompt and consistent response to prevent repeat offenses.

Participants attend programming that combines:

  • Alcohol education
  • Cognitive therapy
  • Self-assessment
  • Victim impact panel

Schedule and locations

The program is held most Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Locations rotate through these locations:

  • Government Center Jury Room, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis (Map)
  • Earle Brown Heritage Center (Tack Room), 6155 Earle Brown Drive, Brooklyn Center (Map)
  • Crowne Plaza, 3 Appletree Square, Bloomington (Map)
  • Eisenhower Community Center, 1001 Highway 7, Hopkins (Map)

The One-Day DWI program is also offered quarterly in Spanish at the Government Center location on the fifth Saturday of months that have five Saturdays.

If you cannot attend the program at the location where you were sentenced, you may register for another location.



If you haven't yet, create an account on the One-Day DWI registration website, and register for your session. Please be sure to save your account information (e.g., login name, password, etc.). You will need this information to cancel or reschedule a session.

Fees and payment

The One-Day DWI fee is $375 ($250 for public defender clients).

  • Payment must be made at least one day in advance of the program.
  • Check or money order only, made payable to Hennepin County One-Day DWI Program. Credit cards and debit cards are not accepted.
    • Include your case number on your payment.
    • Include your Social Security number on your payment.

Paying in person

Payments are accepted in person until one day prior to your scheduled program at the probation office located near the courts where sentencing occurs. Locations include:

Frequently asked questions

What if I need to reschedule or cancel a registration?

Go to the One-Day DWI registration website and enter using your login name and password. From the site, you can cancel your session. If you need to reschedule, cancel then register for a session that works better for your schedule.


Keep in mind that payment for the session MUST be received before you will be admitted into a program session. If you paid for the program that you are canceling, your payment will be applied to your new session.

How do I get into the online registration system if I don't remember my username and password?

  • For usernames, please contact the Hennepin County help desk at 612-348-6662 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • For passwords, please click on the Trouble Logging In icon from the registration's main page. You will need to know your username and the answer the secret question you previously selected in order to reset the password. You do not need a password to view the main page.

Will I be reminded about my session?

Yes. You will receive two emails to the address you entered when you created your account in the online registration system.

  1. A confirmation email will be sent after you successfully register online for a session.
  2. A reminder email will be sent five days before your scheduled program. Please check your spam or junk mail box if you do not receive a reminder.

If you do not provide a valid email address, you will not receive any notifications. Adult probation employees will do their best to remind clients without an email address, but it is the clients' responsibility to attend their scheduled session.

It is strongly recommended that you print your completed registration for your records.

How do I schedule community service (Sentencing to Service)?

What if I fail to complete the One-Day DWI program and/or STS?

Arrest warrants are issued for those who fail to attend the One-Day DWI program and or complete sentencing to service as ordered by the court. People arrested on such a warrant will be required to return to court.

Are meals served? How do breaks work?

Meals and snacks are not provided. Participants are given an hour lunch break in which they may leave the premises for a meal. Breaks are given throughout the day.

Who do I talk to about payment/registration questions?

Please call the registration line at 612-543-0471 for registration and payment confirmations. Leave your name and phone number and an agent will return your call.

How do I know if a session is cancelled due to inclement weather?

When time permits, cancellations due to bad weather will be announced on the phone registration line. Please call 612-543-0471 and select your class location for a recorded message.

How do I receive a copy of my certificate if I've moved to another state?

Please call the registration line at 612-543-0471 and leave a message requesting a copy of your certificate. Provide your full name and mailing address.
