Cross-country ski pass

Anyone over the age of 16 on ski trails in state parks or forests or on state or grant-in-aid trails must have a Minnesota ski pass. You must sign your pass and carry it with you when skiing.

Apply in person at the Government Center Service Center location only. Make an appointment for a shorter wait time.

Cost

  • Daily pass: $6
  • Season pass: $20 (effective July 1 to June 30 of following year, i.e. 07/01/2010 - 06/30/2011)
  • 3-season pass: $55 (effective July 1 to June 30 of third year, i.e. 07/01/2010 - 06/30/2013)

Your ski pass fee helps support Minnesota's cross-country ski trail system.

Hunting and fishing licenses

Unless exempt, all individuals 16 and older must purchase a license to hunt and fish in Minnesota. Fishing licenses are valid from March 1 to April 30 the following year and hunting licenses are valid from March 1 to February 28 the following year.

Requirements

To purchase a license, you must provide your Social Security number, unless it's already on file with the Department of Natural Resources. See "Additional information" below.

For resident license, you must also provide one of the following

  • Proof of Minnesota residency (a MN driver's license or identification card)
  • A firearm safety certificate

For non-resident license, you must also provide one of the following from your state of residence

  • A driver's license
  • A state identification card

Minnesota state park permit

By purchasing a permit you help maintain and improve the natural resources, facilities, and education and outreach programs that make Minnesota's state parks among the best in the nation.

Permit will be issued at the time you apply and is valid for one year from the month of purchase.

  • Permits applied for at the University of Minnesota location will be mailed.

Fees

  • Year-round vehicle permit: $26
  • Additional vehicle permit: $18.72
  • Year-round motorcycle permit: $20.80 (fits in wallet; not on windshield)
  • Special permit: $12.48 (requires proof of disability and vehicle ownership)

  • Receive a discount on permits for additional vehicles you own.
  • Year-round permit provides unlimited access to all 74 MN state parks and recreation areas.
  • Disabled veterans and active duty military personnel can get discounted permits at any park.
  • While at a park, trade your one-day permit and get $5 off a year-round permit (limit one $5 off per year-round permit).
  • Minnesota DNR permits & licenses for persons with special needs.
