The Hennepin County Child and Teen Checkups program can help with the details of keeping your family healthy. When you call, you will connect with a real person who can give you personalized assistance to help you keep up with your family’s health care needs. 

Whether you speak English, Spanish, Somali, Hmong or another language, we will speak with you in your native language.

These specialized health checks are available at no cost to children and teens who receive health care benefits through Medical Assistance and MinnesotaCare, including:

  • Children from infancy through high school
  • Independent teens and adults up to age 21, including young parents

Learn about our program

We will help to connect you with a clinic that provides specialized health checks for our clients. Once you get there, you can expect:

  • A complete physical exam
  • Hearing and vision checks
  • Needed lab tests and immunizations
  • Checks on development and growth
  • Referral to a dentist
  • Information about good physical and mental health, behavior and development

You can use this health check for to meet requirements for Head Start, WIC, school, sports or day care.

Schedule an exam

Children and teens should get health checks at these milestones:

  • Between birth and 1 month
  • At 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18 months
  • At 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 years
  • Every two years after age 6 or more often if needed

Whether you live with your family or you are on your own, the Hennepin County Child and Teen Checkups program can help with the details of keeping you healthy. 

When you call, you will connect right away with a real person who can give you personalized assistance to help you stay current with your health care needs. Information about your mental health, sexual health and physical health, your concerns and your medical care are confidential.

Our staff can help you schedule a Child and Teen Checkups health check, or you can call your own clinic to make an appointment.

No cost for services

These specialized health checks are available at no cost to eligible teens and young adults. 
Child and Teen Checkups services are for young people who receive health care benefits through Medical Assistance and MinnesotaCare, including independent teens and young adults up to age 21, including young parents. If you have children, you can get help managing their health care, too.
