Connecting Cedar Lake to Transit/Ballpark

Description

Opened in 1995, the Cedar Lake Trail runs along the Burlington Northern rail corridor from downtown Minneapolis and connects with popular bike trails in St. Louis Park, Hopkins and other western suburbs. The trail is well-used, with the number of riders exceeding 1,000 in two different areas during a two-hour user count taken in 2008.

Hennepin County will use a little more than $1.1 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding to expand connections between the trail and the Hiawatha Light Rail Transit line, the planned Northstar Commuter rail line, Metro Transit bus service out of the 5th Street Ramp and, in the future, with the Central and Bottineau Boulevard lines. Trail improvements funded by the Recovery Act will also provide bike riders and commuters with better access to the new Twins ballpark for games.
