MPD Computer Forensic Analysis for Major Crime and Asset Forfeiture Investigations Program
Description
The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office will receive $90,000 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding as part of a unique partnership with the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) meant to increase criminal prosecutions and convictions in major crime cases and related asset forfeiture actions that rely on digital media evidence.
As the project leader, the Minneapolis Police Department has received $442,000 from the U.S. Department of Justice for the MPD Computer Forensic Analysis for Major Crime and Asset Forfeiture Investigations Program. The program will expand existing computer forensic investigation capabilities and fund the purchase of equipment necessary to provide capabilities in identifying, recovering, documenting and analyzing digital media evidence.
The program is expected to create 2.5 jobs over two years including a Computer Forensic Analyst position, a Forfeiture Investigator position at the Minneapolis Police Department, and a part-time Senior Attorney position at the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.
