Workforce Investment Act Funding for Adults and Youth

Description

Hennepin County has received Recovery Act funding for Workforce Investment Act programs in five areas.

WIA Adult ARRA: The ARRA Adult WIA program is a federally authorized program that provides a set of graduated services for eligible (veterans have priority of services) adults including assessment, career-counseling, job search, some limited training opportunities and job-placement and job retention services. Services are provided through vendors located geographically (North: HIRED; West: Employment Action Center; South: HIRED) throughout suburban Hennepin County.

WIA Dislocated Worker ARRA: The ARRA Dislocated Worker Program is a federally authorized program that provides eligible adults (those who have lost their job through no fault of their own) with a graduated set of services including assessment, career-counseling, job search, some limited training opportunities and job-placement and job retention services. Again, services are provided through vendors located geographically (North: HIRED; West: Employment Action Center; South: HIRED) throughout suburban Hennepin County.

WIA Youth (Year-round) ARRA: This is a federal authorized program for eligible youth (14-24 yrs old) who have met program guidelines. Youth are offered a variety of work readiness activities, job search opportunities, educational/tutoring and assistance and work experience, Program outcomes include work readiness, educational and occupational certifications and job placements. Services are subcontracted to Tree Trust, a local non-profit organization with significant youth program experience.

WIA Youth Summer ARRA: This is a federally authorized program for eligible youth (14-24 yrs old) who have met program guidelines. Youth are offered work experience and wage earning employment at group and/or one to one on individually designed worksites with a variety of local government entities. Services are subcontracted to Tree Trust, a local non-profit organization with significant youth program experience. This program is short -term, June through August, and is only offered for suburban Hennepin County residents.

WIA Youth Special Needs ARRA: This small, federal authorized program serves youth such as juvenile offenders, youth who are in or aging out of foster care, homeless or runaway youth, teen parents or other hard to serve youth populations identified locally. The program is also operated by Tree Trust within the suburban Hennepin County area only.
