TANF Emergency Fund

Description

The ARRA creates a TANF Emergency Fund from which states can request quarterly grants for three purposes: caseload increase, increased expenditures for non-recurrent short term benefits and increased expenditures for subsidized employment.

The quarterly grant would be 80 percent of the total increase in spending from whichever year, 2007 or 2008, when the state’s cash assistance caseload or expenditures were the lowest. TANF Emergency Hennepin County will expand allowable emergency assistance services to include past due child care co-payments for homeless families and travel assistance for homeless families for the purpose of job or housing search, job training, literacy classes and work, assistance with car repairs and/or past due insurance. Fund monies are available for the period October 1, 2008 to September 30, 2010.
