Due to the current economic situation, NorthPoint Health and Wellness Center anticipates large increases in the number of uninsured individuals seeking health care services. The first four months of 2009 resulted in more than 27,000 service encounters, and if the trend continues, NorthPoint will reach service levels originally projected to be reached in 2013.
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) accepted NorthPoint's application for funding of two capital improvement projects: 1) renovation of existing space to provide additional exam rooms and to improve registration and rooming processes throughout the clinic; and 2) acquisition of necessary equipment to support the expansion and continue to maintain and improve services to patients and clients. Funding is for a two-year period.
Proposed changes will support 6,000 additional medical patient visits, 3,500 additional dental patient visits, and 800 additional optometry visits annually. Equipment acquisitions will support the additional visits, improve provider productivity, expedite patient flows and decrease waiting times for test results.
