Minnesota Department of Health Immunization Program

Description

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has awarded Recovery Act funding to the Hennepin County Human Services and Public Health Department to expand immunization services to un- and underinsured adults in Hennepin County.  In Hennepin County, Recovery Act funds from the MDH Immunization program have been used for the following:

  • Provide adults with immunizations for work and school requirements, including Hepatitis, Tetanus, and Measles.
  • Flu and pneumococcal vaccinations for adults. The US Centers for Disease Control now recommends that all persons over 6 months of age be vaccinated for influenza, and that people who smoke or have respiratory issues, including asthma, be vaccinated with the pneumococcal vaccine.
  • Provide the Human Papilloma Virus vaccine for adults 26 years and younger to prevent cervical cancer and genital warts.
  • Outreach to educate parents and child caregivers about the importance of receiving immunization to protect the infants and children in their care against Pertussis, which is reaching epidemic levels in many states.

Low-cost immunization services are available for both adults and children at immunization walk-in clinics in Minneapolis, Bloomington, and Brooklyn Center, by appointment at the Hennepin County Public Health clinic, and by appointment or walk-in at Healthcare for the Homeless clinics.

For more information about walk-in immunization clinics in Hennepin County, call 612-348-2884 or go to www.hennepin/vaccines.
