Hennepin County helps families secure child support that is owed them. Helping families locate absent parents and secure owed support helps them be self-sufficient and reduces the demands for public assistance. These activities are primarily funded by county and, to a lesser degree, state funds that earn a 66 percent federal match. In addition, states can earn federal performance incentives as a result of outstanding performance, funds Minnesota has routinely earned due to the diligent work of county staff.
Thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the performance incentives can now be used as state and local match, thus increasing the program funding available without requiring additional county support.
