Health Care for the Homeless Capital Improvements

Description

Recently, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) approved a grant for the implementation of a new electronic health record system for the Health Care for the Homeless (HCH) project. In 2008, HCH served 5,054 homeless individuals’ health needs by providing acute and preventative medical care, and chemical and mental health assessment and referral services at 11 participating shelters and drop-in centers throughout Minneapolis.

The benefits of introducing an electronic health record system include increased efficiency, improved accessibility to patient records, and a reduced amount of printed materials. Hennepin County has selected EPIC Systems as the vendor for this electronic health record system installation.

By providing quality health care to homeless individuals, HCH is ensuring that the basic health care needs of every individual are met. The grant will expand the efficiency of this program and provide funding for a two-year period.
