The Adult Corrections Facility (ACF) provides short-term (up to one year) custody and programming for adult offenders convicted of felony, gross misdemeanor, and misdemeanor offenses. 

The facility has a capacity of 477 — 399 beds in the men's section and 78 beds in the women's. Learn more (PDF 177kb).

Admissions process

  • Reporting — If ordered to report on your own to the Adult Corrections Facility, it is your responsibility to report on the date and time issued by the court. Only your sentencing judge may change the report date.
    • People who do not have transportation to the Adult Corrections Facility may report to the Public Safety Facility located in downtown Minneapolis for transport by Adult Corrections Facility officers.
  • Documentation — When you report, you must bring:
    • Identification (i.e., driver's license or state issued ID)
    • A copy of the commitment issued by the court
  • Fees
    • Residents will be charged a $30 booking fee.
  • Items permitted into the facility — All incoming residents will be searched by correctional staff to prevent contraband from entering the facility. Checkbooks, credit cards, backpacks, suitcases, television sets, computers, jewelry, keys, belts and other valuable items should be left at home. Money you bring will be deposited in an account in your name.

    Items permitted into the facility include:
    • Pencils and notebooks (no spiral bindings)
    • Bibles and prayer books
    • Prescription medications (Medical care is provided at the ACF)
    • Medical alert ID bracelets for special medical conditions

Hygiene kits are provided to each resident upon admission

Programming

The ACF offers access to educational and vocational training, chemical health programs, job opportunities, reparations/restitution programs, home monitoring, and personal growth programs.

  • Productive Day Enterprises — This program provides job-skills training and real-life work experience to prepare residents for a full-time working lifestyle and self-sufficiency when they return home.
  • Electronic Home Monitoring — This community-based program is used for low-risk offenders.
  • Work Release —This program allows eligible participants to maintain employment or attend school while serving their sentence.

Creative writing workshops at the Adult Corrections Facility helped residents see a new world of positive behaviors and healthy choices available to them and resulted in a powerful volume of poetry, “Poems From Inside.”
