Marriage Certificates/Records

A certified copy verifies that a marriage has taken place and must be applied for in the county where the original marriage license application was made.  Use the MN Official Marriage System (MOMS) if you are uncertain of which county in Minnesota application was originally made.

How to apply

Choose an option below to begin your application process.

• Option 1: Complete (except for signatures) the marriage record application (PDF 56kb) and print it.
  • Submit it in person/walk-in, by appointment, by mail or by FAX.
• Option 2: Start your application, pay online, print your application and submit it by FAX.
  • There is an additional $7 service fee charged by VitalCheck.
  • Pay by American Express®, Discover®, MasterCard® or Visa®.

Cost

• $9 per each certified copy
• In person payment options
• Fees are non-refundable, as per Minnesota Statutes, section 144.226

Additional information

• Certified copies can generally be issued at time of application. **
• To get a certified copy of a marriage record, the correct date of the event and the correct name of the registrant is required. 
  • If you don't know the date and name, we can search for you at a $20 per hour ($10 minimum) in addition to the cost of the copy.
