Minnesota residents renew their drivers licenses every four years. Your drivers licenses or state id card expires on the date printed on your card. While a DL or ID card is being produced you will need to carry both your clipped card and your stamped yellow copy receipt.
If you have had a Minnesota Driver's License in the last five years, you do not need to present any additional identification than your current drivers license or id card. You will need to know your social security number. If you are under 18, you will need to bring a parent or guardian with proper identification with you.
A renewal form will be provided to you at time of renewal. If you prefer or have special visual testing requirements, download the Visual Acuity Form, ask your eye doctor to fill it out and bring it with you at time of renewal.
Drivers license services are available at all service center locations with the exceptions of written tests (Midtown location only) and other tests (state testing facilities only).
