Performing at Summer on the Plaza

Each summer Hennepin County welcomes performers, entertainers and educators of all genres to the Government Center’s outdoor North Plaza for the Summer on the Plaza performance series.

Schedule

We schedule performances from noon–1 p.m., May 1 through Labor Day, on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, weather permitting. In the event of severe weather, performances are moved inside to the Government Center’s Public Service Level (Skyway Level 2).

Location

The North Plaza (Map It!) is located adjacent to Minneapolis City Hall at the Hiawatha Light Rail Government Plaza station. The plaza has a small grill-style restaurant and is a popular lunch spot for downtown employees. On request, we also schedule performances on the Government Center’s grass-covered South Plaza.

Equipment

Hennepin County provides the tools necessary for a successful performance, including a full sound system, staging, portable dance floor, tables and chairs. Please call or email with your specific needs.

Compensation

Summer on the Plaza cannot offer stipends, but we provide complimentary parking in our building and lunch for performers after they perform. We also send out news releases and publicize performances on our website, and take professional-quality photos of the event to share with performers.
