Welcome to my online office. Here you will find information about important issues and events in the 2nd District of Hennepin County, which stretches from Plymouth on the west to St. Anthony Village on the east and includes Medicine Lake, Crystal, Golden Valley, North Minneapolis, and Northeast Minneapolis in between. I am honored to be among the decision makers on the Hennepin County Board, and as your commissioner, my priorities include:

• As the Chair of the Budget and Capital Investment Committee, I am committed to a streamlined government that conducts business efficiently and effectively as we set our 2010 Budget.
• Helping ensure equal access to computers, educational resources and programming, Hennepin County's Library system is recognized as one of the finest in the nation.
• We have a vision for transit in this region – a vision that is becoming reality.
• Hennepin's road system is one of the best in the country. Find information on specific projects in our district below under Projects and Initiatives.
• Public Safety is the most important role of government. It is only when the streets are safe that families, communities, neighborhoods and businesses can thrive.
• Preventing foreclosure and homelessness are major components of improving livability in our most blighted areas.

Projects & Initiatives

• The link between north and northeast Minneapolis has been revitalized through the Lowry Avenue Community Works Project. A state of the art bridge spanning the Mississippi River is anticipated to open in late 2011.

• We’re restoring and rejuvenating our unique commemoration to fallen World War I soldiers on Victory Memorial Drive in North Minneapolis.
• We can already see the benefits of investing in transit through the success of the Hiawatha Line and the excitement surrounding Northstar Commuter Rail.
• In March, Hennepin County opened a brand new library in Plymouth, voted the best place to live in 2008.
• Outdoor baseball has returned to Hennepin County.
• The Bottineau and Southwest transitways will address the increased demand for greater access and mobility in our region.  One day, they will both connect to other modes of mobility at the Minneapolis Transportation Interchange.
• The Northeast Library closed for renovations in October 2009. When it reopens in 2011, the library will boast expanded work and meeting space, more computers, sustainable architecture and design, and building-wide wireless access.
