Paid leave programs

Hennepin County has two paid leave programs: vacation / sick leave and paid time off (PTO). There are two accrual schedules for PTO.

Your paid leave program and accrual schedule are determined by both:

  • Whether you are a union or non-union employee
  • The date you were hired, rehired, or moved from a non-benefit earning temporary position into a benefit-earning position

You can change from the vacation and sick leave program to the PTO program at any time if you were hired, rehired, or moved from a non-benefit earning temporary position into a benefit-earning position before 10/16/2005.
