Metro Transit Metropass

The Metropass is a permanent monthly pass that covers fare up to $3.00 each ride and can be used for the bus or rail. The Metropass costs $45.60 per month and is deducted from the first paycheck of the month pre-tax. This card is always “active” until you choose to end it.

Eligibility

All employees are eligible to participate in the Metropass discount programs. The programs is available only to employees (not dependents) and is to be used only for travel to and from work.

You are allowed to participate in only one program, either Go-To Card or Metropass, at a time.

Savings

Hennepin County covers 40% of the cost of the program. Your share of the cost is paid through pre-tax payroll deduction.

Enroll or re-enroll

To enroll/re-enroll in the MetroPass, you must sign up in APEX on or before 10 a.m. on the 13th of preceding month. Follow the steps below. Please note: if you sign up in APEX, you are obligated to participate for at least one month.

  1. Log in to APEX
    • Under Payroll, select "Bus Card Deduction"
    • Select "Add Deduction," then select "Add Metropass," and save
  2. Pick up your Metropass. Your Metropass will arrive in the Benefits Division during the last week of the month prior the month it becomes effective. You will be contacted via email when your card is available to pick up.
  3. Once you receive your MetroPass, log into APEX and enter your 16-digit card number. To update your MetroPass number:
    • Log into APEX and select "My Pay and Benefits"
    • Under Payroll, select "Bus Card Deduction"
    • Select "Update Bus Card #"
    • Enter your 16-Digit MetroPass number and save — double check the number to ensure the correct MetroPass number is added

Cancel or suspend

Cancel

You can cancel your MetroPass by completing the MetroPass cancelation/suspend form (DOCX). The form must be received by 10 a.m. on the 23rd of the month in order for your MetroPass to be canceled on the 1st of the following month. Forms not received by this deadline will not be processed until the next month.

To cancel your MetroPass:

  1. Complete the cancellation/suspend form and indicate the effective date. The effective date must be the 1st of the month.
  2. Return the form to the Benefits Divisions, mail code 040
  3. Return your MetroPass to the Benefits Division after the 1st of the month to; 300 S. 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487 or mail code 040
  4. Benefits Division will cancel your payroll deduction

Suspend

You can suspend your MetroPass by completing the MetroPass cancelation/suspend form (DOC). The form must be received by 10 a.m. on the 23rd of the month in order for your MetroPass to be suspended on the 1st of the following month. Forms not received by this deadline will not be processed until the next month.

To suspend your MetroPass:

  1. Complete the cancellation/suspend form and indicate the effective date and re-start date. The effective date and re-start date must be the 1st of the month. Please note:
    • MetroPasses can only be suspended for a maximum of 3 months
    • MetroPass suspensions that do not list a re-start date will not be processed
    • Benefits Division will cancel and re-start your payroll deduction
  2. Return the form to the Benefits Divisions, mail code 040
  3. Benefits Division will cancel and re-start your payroll deduction through APEX

Lost, stolen, or damaged Metropass

Call the HR Service Center at 612-348-7855 and report that your card has been lost/stolen or damaged.

  • A $5.00 replacement fee will be deducted from your paycheck.
  • It may take up to 3 weeks to receive the replacement.
  • You will be contacted when the replacement is available.
