Flexible spending accounts Flexible spending account (FSA) Your flexible spending account closes on your termination / retirement date unless you extend coverage for the rest of the calendar year. You may only use funds to be reimbursed for claims incurred prior to your termination/retirement date. You lose any unused dollars left in your account. Claims are administered by 121 Benefits. Dependent care assistance program (DCAP) You can be reimbursed for claims that were incurred prior to your termination/retirement. Health care expense account (HCEA) Your expense account funds remain available until the end of the calendar year in which you retire. You have two options: Option 1: Do NOT continue HCEA coverage. Your account is closed and your debit card is shut off on your termination/retirement date. You can submit claims for expenses incurred prior to your termination/retirement date. Claims must be submitted prior to the end of the calendar year. Option 2: Continue HCEA coverage until the end of the calendar year. Accept the continuation offer mailed to you by 121 Benefits. You continue to make contributions. There is no pre-tax advantage. You can submit claims and incur expenses through the end of the calendar year. The grace period of January 1 through March 15 of the following year applies. Parking and / or transit spending accounts You can submit claims for expenses incurred prior to your termination/retirement date. You must send in all reimbursement requests within 180 days of the date of the expense. MetroPass discount program Your MetroPass will be deactivated. To avoid a possible deduction from your final paycheck, it is your responsibility to email the benefits division, on or before 10 a.m. on the 23rd of the month in which you resign or retire. Go-To Card bus and rail discount program You are responsible for starting and stopping your Go-To Card election through APEX. Van pool expenses You must send in all reimbursement requests within 180 days of the expense.
